History/background:
Anita Ainsworth is the daughter of Colbert (a highly successful English merchant) and Mary Ainsworth (an incurable gossip from an aristocratic family), and was born on February 16, 1698. Her parents were determined to make their only child’s life as comfortable as possible from her birth—which led, unintentionally, to a restrictive and overprotective home environment. She was raised in an upper-class home in Kingston, Jamaica.

Anita was raised primarily by the Ainworths’ maid, Ruth. Her childhood education was limited by her father’s assumption that knowledge spoils ladies, and she was seldom allowed to play with other children. With Ruth as her only companion, Anita lived a content but isolated life until she reached the age of eighteen. Once she had reached this age, Mary Ainsworth encouraged her daughter to become acquainted with other ladies of her class and suitable gentlemen. Anita, shy and socially awkward, wasn’t successful at this endeavor, although she managed to find herself in a relationship with a charming gentleman named Andrew.

Her life was largely uneventful until she stumbled into the city at the age of twenty four. During her four-month stay in the City, she made many acquaintances, successfully avoided most disasters, and was eventually reunited with her beau.

Anita and Andrew were whisked back to Kingston without warning. There, they married and were, for some time, happy. That happiness came to a sudden end when Anita suffered a miscarriage; soon afterwards, Andrew accepted a higher position in the Royal Navy and was forced to spend longer periods of time away from home. Anita became increasingly dissatisfied with their distanced relationship and moved back into her family home.

As suddenly as she was taken from the City, Anita returned. Three years had passed in her world; only one had passed in the City.

Personality:
Anita is, in short, a society lady, and ill-suited to doing anything other than behaving as such. As is appropriate for her time, Anita is meek, submissive, and unfailingly polite. Her attention to etiquette dictates most of her behavior in social situations, and she has high standards of morality and expects those around her to behave in accordance with them.

A firm believer in the value of tradition, Anita tends to resist change. She will stubbornly stick to her rigid moral code and observation of proper manners, even if her situation calls for flexibility.

Anita is incredibly naïve and gullible. She is in the habit of seeing only the best in others, and always takes others at their word. Because she is honest, she assumes everyone else is, as well. Her trust is easy to win and, on occasion, sorely misplaced.

In spite of her shortcomings, Anita is gentle, idealistic, and well-meaning. She’s empathetic and soft-hearted, and will go well out of her way to help another—assuming she isn’t required to do anything unseemly and improper along the way. She also has a tendency to mother everyone around her.

Abilities:
Anita has a certain amount of skill with a needle. She sews and embroiders, as befits a lady of her station. While her classical education was limited, she has a strategic mind and an innate sense of diplomacy that allows her to stay well out of the way of conflict. Anita’s also quite good at making tea—her only domestic skill.

Flaws/weaknesses:
As might be expected, Anita doesn’t have any experience with weapons or fighting in any form. She’s horrible at keeping house, as well; having grown up with a maid, her abilities to cook and clean are highly limited. She’s gullible and quick to trust, which can put her at a distinct disadvantage around certain people. Her tendency to lecture people who are behaving inappropriately might be a considered a flaw, too, as not everyone reacts to motherly scoldings positively.
